muligens dansk) og tysk,12 dessuten en oversettelse til dansk “begyndis
paa Ottin” og en annen “paa danske skreffuen” som begynner med
Njord.13 Også i andre norske boksamlinger som havnet i Universitets-
biblioteket i København fantes sagaoversettelser, og ikke alle lar seg
identifisere.
Bergenshumanistene brukte også kongesagaer som kilder til andre
verker. Mest kjent er kanskje Bergens Fundas. Den tar for seg Bergens
historie fram til forfatterens samtid, sommeren 1559. Verket er trolig
fuliført før historiens helt, Christoffer Valkendorf, gikk av som lensher-
re i 1560, og dette gir grunnlag for datering til 1559-60.14 Kildene er
brev og dokumenter og, for den eldste tidens vedkommende, et Heims-
kringla-håndskrift som ikke er nærmere identifisert. Bergens Rimkrøni-
ke er siden skrevet på grunnlag av Bergens Fundas, men dikteren har
også selv gått til kildene, bl. a. har han supplert med yderligere opplys-
ninger fra Heimskringla.'5
Absalon Pederssøn Beyer var i sin tid en hovedskikkelse i humanist-
miljøet i Bergen. I sitt skrift Om Norgis Rige (1567)16 går han gjennom
Norges historie fra de eldste tider. Kildene er mange, både norske og
utenlandske. Gustav Storm mente han var usikker i gammelnorsk og
derfor mest brukte kongesagaene gjennom Mattis Størssøns oversettel-
se, men at han til støtte har hatt et Heimskringla-håndskrift, et hånd-
skrift av Den store sagaen om Olav Tryggvason og ett av Håkon Hå-
konssons saga.'1
I tillegg til de oversettelsesarbeidene som her er nevnt, finnes ett fra
samme tid som til nå har vært lite kjent. Denne oversettelsen har fristet
en anonym tilværelse i Det kgl. bibliotek i Stockholm, i et samlehånd-
skrift med signaturen Sth pappfol 84 (Sth 84).18 Den er ikke utgitt før,
og den er heller ikke nevnt i noen oversikt over denne litteraturen. Helt
nyoppdaget er teksten imidlertid ikke. Den vidt beleste sagaforskeren
