THE BLUE LAGOON
As Iceland’s most popular tourist
attraction, most visitors enjoy
The Blue Lagoon during the
summer months. During winter,
however, the Lagoon takes on an
ethereal ambiance. Bathing in
the milky turquoise water as the
snow falls, melting as it hits the
rising steam, is otherworldly.
Plus, the Lagoon will be essen-
tially empty, so you’ll have it all
to yourself.
KÁRAHNJÚKAR
Waterfalls, glacial rivers, desert
highlands, and the remarkable
Dimmugljúfur canyon: It’s the
largest wilderness area in
Western Europe, and it lies to the
north of Vatnajökull, Europe’s
largest glacier. Soon, the
Kárahnjúkar refuge will be
dammed, flooded and the area’s
rivers will be powering a nearby
aluminium smelter. See it before
it’s forever changed.
