tional events will be held in connection with
the exhibition, including seminars, lectures
and/or special showings. Another important
addition was the invitation to a non-Nordic
expert to join the distinguished jury to select
the winners and scholarships – in this case,
art history professor, critic and museum
curator Robert Storr from New York.
This year, 26 experts on Nordic contempo-
rary painting each nominated up to five of
the most prominent contemporary artists in
or from the Nordic region for the Carnegie
Art Award 2004. In the exhibition, the visitor
is greeted by a rich panoply of expression
conveyed through painting. The incredible
variety of talents includes Finnish artist Elina
Brotherus, Dane Kaspar Bonnéen, and
Icelanders Eggert Pétursson and Stein-
grímur Eyfjörd, a permanent contributor to
Atlantica magazine with his quirky drawings
for Funny Old Word. AMB
The Carnegie Art Awards exhibition takes place at
the Kópavogur Art Museum near Reykjavík from 12
December until 22 February.
