Icelandair will fly to seven new destinations during the summer
of 2004.This is the most extensive schedule enhancement since
Icelandair began. On average, there will be 128 departures from
Iceland each week and the same number of arrivals, or on aver-
age over 36 flights per day to and from Iceland.
"Our goal is to double the number of tourists that come to
Iceland over the next seven years.We now see marketing oppor-
tunities that have not existed since September 11, 2001.With our
powerful PR and marketing strategy, Iceland's tourism has
strengthened compared to its neighbouring countries and now
we plan to build upon those positive results. The increase will
strengthen Icelandair's route system and adds interesting cities
and countries to the travel possibilites of our passengers", says
Steinn Logi Björnsson, Icelandair Senior Vice President Marketing
and Sales.
The seven new destinations are Orlando USA, Helsinki, Finland,
Madrid in Spain, Zurich in Switzerland and the German cities
Munich, Hamburg, and Berlin.
7 New Dest inat ions in Summer 2004!
Many of the finest chefs in the world will be in Reykjavik in February for
the third Food and Fun Festival. Once again, Icelandair will join hands
with the City of Reykjavík and Iceland Naturally to hold the festival, which
is held at the same time as the Reykjavík Winter Lights Festival. This
fun and exciting festival includes a Cook Off competition between inter-
nationally acclaimed chefs from many of the best restaurants throughout
Europe and the United States. All chefs will compete using Icelandic ingre-
dients, known worldwide for their unique natural and delicious qualities.
Also, several restaurants in Reykjavik have been selected to present a spe-
cial festival menu designed by the participating chefs, who will
demonstrate their culinary skills for visitors. BON APPETIT!
The first allocation of funds from the Icelandair Travel Fund for
Special Children were dispersed to seven children and their families.
The objective of the new Travel Fund is to give children suffering from
long-term illness, or those with special circumstances, an opportunity
to go on their "dream journey" along with their family, and Icelandair.
The funds patron is Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, former President of
Iceland.
Each child that receives an allocation from this fund can take her/his
whole family on the trip with all expenses covered by the Travel Fund.
The fund is financed by three main sources. First, donations are given
by Icelandair – three million ISK from Icelandair in the first year.
Second, all 200,000 members of the Icelandair Customer Club
can donate a certain number of points to the Fund each year. These
points will be used for airline tickets.Third, all Icelandair passengers can
donate any remaining foreign coins from their travels by using desig-
nated envelopes which are located in all seat pockets on board. Most
of the seven children receiving the award are planning to go to Disney
World in Florida. One plans to see a Liverpool soccer game. The
fund's finances are handled by Landsbankinn, the National Bank of
Iceland.
