June 24, 1869, and raised 11
children (2 died), at
Hólmlátur, the place in Ice-
land where Eiríkur Rauði
(Eric the Red) livedfor 1 year
recruiting settlers for a colony
in Greenland.
OnOctober20,1991,their
descendents gathered at a
coffee party held at
Betelstaðir, Winnipeg. Be-
sides enjoying vínarterta,
pönnukökur, rúllupylsa,
mysostur and dainties, we cel-
ebrated Herdis Maddin’s
75th birthday (Nov. 9) with a
cake topped with a special cookie deco-
rated by Mildred Bjamason. She was
given a rose pitcher painted by Helga
Sigurdson.
Herdis shares Nov. 9th with Jamie
Mann; Ninna and Lillian Eyolfson also
have November birthdays.
October 20th was also the 7th Wed-
ding Anniversary of Adolf and Marie
Holm of Gimli.
