‘JOURNEY’ by Gusgus and Reykjavík
Dance Productions
Described as a “feast for the senses,” you
can expect this dance performance to be
a dramatic and darkly glamourous joining
of electronic dance band Gusgus and
Reykjavík Dance Productions.

Harbringer
‘Man in the Anthropocene’ by
Rustan Söderling
In this multi-media exhibit, Söderling
explores the geological impact that the
human race has had on planet Earth by
exploring the idea of artifact and memory.

Reykjavík Art Museum -
Hafnarhús
‘Still-Life’
This showing marks the fourth exhibition
in the Kunstschlager series, and features
the works of 19 artists creating works that
offer their own take on the term “still-life.”
Artists include Þorvaldur Jónsson, Sindri
Leifsson and many others. The exhibit aims
to encourage viewers to take a closer look
at the world around us and appreciate the
everyday.

Anarkía
‘Ylur’ by Hanna Pálsdóttir
Hanna Pálsdóttir’s paintings are marked
with strong colours and abstract
expression. Thematically, she is interested
in exploring time, contrasts, nature and
beauty. This is her ninth solo exhibition in
Iceland.

‘Blik’ by Friðrik Jónsson
Despite being almost 90 years old, this is
Friðrik Jónsson’s first solo show. It features
photo-realistic paintings.

‘Untitled’ by Lilja Bragadóttir
This exhibition features the abstract and
vividly colourful oil and acrylic paintings of
Lilja Bragadóttir. The artist graduated from
Grafik Kunstskole in Århus in 2004, and has
an art studio (Art 11) that she shares with
several other female artists in Kópavogur.

Árbær Open Air Museum
‘Between the lines – How stay-at-
home women earned a living 1900-
1970’
This exhibition looks at how women were
able to generate revenue with odd jobs in
the twentieth century when many of them
stayed at home.

Ásgrímur Jónsson Collection
‘In The Light Of The Days’ by
Ásgrímur Jónsson
The works of the late Ásgrímur Jónsson
cover huge swaths of the history of Iceland.
The interpretation of the seen and the
unseen, landscape, and oral tradition
were some of his main topics throughout
his career, which spanned the first half of
the twentieth century. His paintings and
drawings reflect sincere love for the country
and the nation, and the works chosen for
this exhibition reflect the scope of the artist’s
themes.

Better Weather Window Gallery
‘p,mö///l ksp,mö///l ks’ by Sigurður
Ámundson
This exhibit, while difficult to pronounce,
is a mixed media installation that presents
Sigurður's pencil drawings and clay
sculptures in this window gallery.

Crymogea
‘Good Friends’ by Brynjar
Sigurðarson
Product designer Brynjar Sigurðarson
exhibits new and old work alike this month
at Crymogea. Many of his pieces have
strong ties to Iceland, including candles that
look like mini glaciers and fishing-inspired
designs created with rope and wood. Also
featured will be works of designer Veronika
Sedlmair and graphic designer Frosti Gnarr.

The Einar Jónsson Museum
The museum contains close to 300 artworks
including a beautiful garden with 26 bronze
casts of the artist’s sculptures.

‘27’ by Tomasz Górnicki
This exhibit is inspired by five famous
members of the 27 club and reflects on the
permanence of life through graphite works,
a material that is made from the same
building block as carbon.

Gallerí Fold
‘Rebirth’ by Nikhil Nathan Kirsh
This mixed-media photography and painting
exhibit centres on expressions of freedom
and self-identity, and is partly inspired by the
artist’s own experience of being a clown.

‘The Next Great Moment in History Is
Ours’ by Dorothy Iannone
Dorothy Iannone (1933) is a visual artist
whose work deals with censorship and
women’s sexuality. In 1969, some of her

‘27' by Tomasz Górnicki

Polish sculptor Tomasz Górnicki explores the theme of mortality
and fame by depicting some of the 27 Club’s more famous
members, such as Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrisson, Kurt Cobain and
Amy Winehouse. Using only graphite, which is made of carbon just
like all living organisms, Tomasz questions the price of fame and
infamy by making art with very transient materials. As he notes in
his description of the project, Cobain had a daughter who grew up
fatherless—was that worth ‘Nevermind’? HJC
