OUTSIDE REYKJAVÍK JULY 17-30 Seyðisfjörður Seyðisfjörður | July 12-19 17:00 | 5,900 ISK So Much Creativity In One Little Fjord ‘LungA Festival’ Off in Seyðisfjörður, a little town in the Eastfjords, a creative explosion is taking place in the form of LungA festival. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the outing includes a gazillion different ways for people aged 16 to 25 to get their creative juices flowing through a creative programme. Festivalgoers can attend workshops that explore comedy, music composition, letter writing, and the apocalypse, among other things. This programme will mostly have finished by the time this paper hits the streets, however, but visitors can still catch an outdoor music performance that includes concerts from the otherworldly mood-masters of Gangly, sparkly/shiny/spacey dj. flugvél og geimskip, the seven wacky glam rockers Grísalappalísa, and several other others. KES Photo by Saga Sig North Iceland Akureyri Akureyri Art Museum ‘Endurvarp’ by Mireya Samper This exhibit shows both two- and three-dimensional works by Samper, exploring the cosmos, infinity, eternity, repetition and patterns. Japanese performance artist Kana Nakamura will also be participating in the show. Runs until August 16 'NOT - Northern Product Design' This exhibit, inspired by Akeureyri's industrial history, presents the work of several Northern product designers. Opens on July 25 Runs until August 30 ‘RÓT’ ("ROOT") This project involves multiple artists of varying disciplines getting together, brainstorming, and creating a work of art together in order to explore what collaborative and unplanned effort might lead to. Runs until July 19 Flóra 'Voting Booth' by Margrét Jónsdóttir This installation by Margrét Jónsdóttir aims to honor Vilhelmína Lever, who pushed for women’s suffrage in Iceland, participating in municipal elections in the 1800s, before women were legally allowed to vote. Runs until August 16 Græni Hatturinn Dikta Icelandic indie rockers Dikta come to Akureyri. July 17 at 22:00 AmabAdamA The world’s coldest reggae band warms up the north. July 18 at 22:00 Ensími Alt-rockers Ensími bring their experimental brand of rock ’n’ roll to Akureyri. July 23 at 21:00 Valdimar Icelandic indie seven-piece put on a show. July 24 at 22:00 Björkologi Jazz group 23/8 pays homage to some of Björk’s work. July 28 at 21:00 Lystigarðurinn 'Maddama, kerling, fröken, fro' by ÁLFkonur ÁLFkonur is a group of female photographers living and working in Akureyri and Eyjafjörður. This show features photos from fifteen of the club's members, and it focuses on topics relating to the centennial anniversary of women's suffrage. Runs until August 31 Menningarhúsið Hof Valgerður og Þór Showstoppers Valgerður Guðnadóttir and Þór Breiðfjörð perform Icelandic and international classics, from movies to musical theatre. July 17 and 18, 14:00 Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson performs songs from Icelandic legends amongst some international rock 'n' roll classics. July 19 at 14:00 and 20:00 Ásdís Arnardóttir cello and Jón Sig- urðsson piano Classic songs for cello from some of Icelands favourite composers. July 24 at 14:00 Sigurður Flosason's Blue Shadows An outstanding jazz/blues crossover band featuring the Icelandic king of the Hammond organ. July 25 at 14:00 Dimmuborgir Kirkjan Anna Jónsdóttir Album Release Tour Anna is touring Iceland with the release of her latest album ‘VAR’ and plays at the church-like formation in this lava field. July 23 at 20:30 Djúpavík Old Herring Factory ‘Hidden Forest’ This exhibit features the works of 25 different artists, all of which focus on driftwood and its untapped potential for practical and artistic use. 'Hidden Forest' is curated by Elísabet V. Ingvarsdóttir and Dóra Hansen. Runs until August 28 Gásir Medieval Days 2015 Come and experience a taste of medieval Icelandic life in Gásir. Blacksmiths, weavers, boatmakers, merchants and singers come together to help you travel back in time to the late 13th century. Runs July 17-19 Hjalteyri Verksmiðjan á Hjalteyri ‘Nowhere Else’ curated by Sirra Sig- rún Sigurðardóttir Inspired by ‘pale blue dot,’ the photograph taken of Earth by Voyager 1 in 1990, this exhibition reflects on the meaning of humanity and our existence on a tiny point in space. Runs until July 26 Höfn The Dairy ‘Beginning and End’ This multimedia exhibition explores the origins of time, of night and day, light and dark, the seasons, and the land. It is the last exhibition to be held at The Dairy before it is converted into a hostel. July 26 at 20:00 Reykjahlíð Reykjahlíðakirkja Anna Jónsdóttir Album Release Tour Anna is touring Iceland with the release of her latest album ‘VAR’. July 22 at 20:30 Skagaströnd Spákonuhof Þórdís the seer The first named inhabitant of Skagaströnd was Þórdís the seer, who lived there in the beginning of the 10th century, and in this exhibit her life, or at least what we know of it, will be on display all summer. Guests can also have their fortunes told or palms read by locals. Runs until September 30 Siglufjörður Siglufjarðarkirkja Sætabrauðsdrengirnir Five-piece Icelandic band scheduled to set to perform their renditions of songs you all know July 21 at 20:00 East Iceland Borgarfjörður The old rendering house in Bakkagerði Bræðslan Festival This small festival is now in its fifth year, offering a diverse range of genres and artists—from Prins Póló to indie rockers Valdimar. Accompanying the main stage acts are lots of off-venue events around the village. July 24 at 20:00 Egilsstaðir Sláturhúsið Cultural Centre Icelandic Women’s Rights Associa- tion Exhibition The Icelandic Women’s Rights As- sociation is hosting this exhibition on the history of the struggle for women’s rights in the 20th century. Runs until July 31 Steinþór Eiríksson Exhibition This exhibit features paintings by local artist Steinþór Eiríksson. Many of his paintings are of Icelandic landscape, such as Dyrfjöll and Snæfell moun- tains. Runs until September 2 Seyðisfjorður LungA 2015 This annual festival features some of Iceland’s most prominent acts, includ- ing Sykur, DJ Flugvel og geimskip, and Reykjavíkurdætur. Not to be missed! July 24 at 21:00 Urabugalinhas Armed with two ukuleles and a synth, this minimalist German duo perform melancholic songs and lo-fi sci-fi folk music. July 25 & 26 at 21:00 Stykkishólmur Library of Water ‘To Place’ by Roni Horn An audio exhibit offering insight into the Icelandic psyche, where you can listen to recordings of people talking about the weather and how it has shaped their character. Runs until August 31 ‘Water, Selected’ by Roni Horn This ongoing sculpture exhibition features 24 columns filled with glacier water from all over the country.
