extend from east to west.

extending from 6622/2550 to 6642/2415.
14/e Ægir 0900Z: Ice margin 6658/2241 to
6650/2155.
15/e Ægir 0900Z: Ice margin 6659/2121 to
6706/2018.
15/e A small iceberg sighted 5 miles E of
Cape Kögur and another one 1 mile off Hæla-
víkurbjarg.
18/6 Ægir 0900Z: From position 6740/2000
the ice margin extends 45° and 250° true as
far as sighted.
15-1.7/g A few small blocks sighted on the
sailing route off Cape Horn and Hælavíkur-
bjarg.

to 6900/2030. Brash and slush extended ab. 10
miles SE of pack boundary.

The distance of the pack boundary frorn Cape
Straumnes was 5—10 miles in the first half of
the month while loose drift ice invaded the
coastal waters off the northwestern promontor-
ies and inconvenienced shipping from the 5th
to 16th of the month.
5-17/7 Drift ice in coastal waters from Cape
Straumnes in west to Cape Horn to 6525/2145
to 6524/2115 to 6655/1955 turning NW to 6710
/2045.
10/7 The boundary of pack ice was running
from 6702/2217 to 6644/2457 to 6638/2550 to
6606/2721 to 6602/2900 to 6546/3010 to 6536/
3027 to 6636/3334 to 6529/3425 thence roughly
to 6432/3725 to 6401/3605 to 6341/3629 to 6338
/3942.

6—8 miles off Cape Horn reaching East and
West as far as sighted. Visibility 20 km.
AUGUST 1963
Pack ice was not sighted from land but some
icebergs (probably 5 or 6) were repeatedly re-
ported off the northwestern coasts. The distance
of the pack ice boundary from Cape Straumnes
probably varied between 20 and 40 miles being
44 miles at the end of month.

4/g The Coastal Guard 1614Z: A big ice-
berg sighted 74° true 14 miles from Geirólfs-
gnúpur (about 6620/2130).
8/8 Air plane 1110Z: An iceberg 299° true
28 miles off Cape Kögur. Another one 14° true
19.5 miles off Cape Horn. Falling to pieces.
8/8 Litlafell 1800Z: Iceberg at 6638/2049
[Drifting NE-wards].
12/s Air plane 0845Z: Sighted two icebergs at
6700/2207 and 6712/2157.
ls/8 Skjaldbreið 1915Z: A big iceberg 352°
true 11 miles from Cape Hælavíkurbjarg.
18/a Hraun (á Skaga) 0900: An iceberg sight-
ed 6—8 miles off the lighthouse.
18/8 The Costal Guard 1300Z: A big iceberg
and a smaller one 360° true 14.3 miles off the
Skagatá lighthouse. Sorne blocks 1.5 miles farther
west.
18/s The Coastal Guard 1710Z: A big ice-
berg 94° true 19 miles off Cape Horn.
18/s The Coastal Guard 1915Z: A medium
sized iceberg 2° true 8 miles off Cape Kögur.
20/g Herðubreið 1515Z: Sighted two icebergs
317° true 6.2 miles off Cape Straumnes.
22/s Litlafell 0630Z: An iceberg sighted 15°
true 5.5 miles off Málmey.
23/s Látravík 1800Z: An iceberg sighted NE
of the lighthouse on the farout sailing route.
