28/8 Látravík 0900Z: A grounded iceberg 2—
3 miles E of Cape Horn. Falling to pieces drift-
ing in the sailing route.
20/8 From the Coastal Guard 1800Z: The
drift ice was forming a relatively narrow snout
stretching SW-wards off the Vestfjords. Cover-
age of the ice field was mostly from 1—5, reach-
ing 6—7 in places. The outlines observed were
roughly from 6900/2100 to 6840/2045 to 6830/
2100 to 6840/2200 to 6825/2300 to 6815/2200
to 6730/2330 to 6700/2400 to 6610/2630 to 6630
/2745 to 6615/2640 to 6700/2545 to 6730/2600
to 6810/2520 to 6810/2700. West of the snout
a big area of open water was observed, then an
icefield from 6730/2730 to 6645/2800 to 6700/
2840.

Some icebergs (3 or 4 in all) were reported.
drifting near Cape Horn, partly the same as
in August. At the begin of the month the south-
ern limit of drift ice seems to extend between
6600/2900 and 6648/2430, 40-50 miles off Cape
Straumnes. No further reports available.
i/o Skjaldbreið 1035Z: An iceberg on the
sailing route 90° true 75 miles E of Cape Horn.
2/o Ægir 1500Z: Some brash and block sighted
6 miles N of pos. 6548/2748.
10/9 Coastal Guard 1000Z: A big iceberg 341°
true 4.7 miles off Cape Straumnes.

direction of surface chrrents.
12/9 Stapafell 0510Z: An iceberg sighted 242°
true 9.2 miles off Cape Ritur.
23/9 Costal Guard TF-SIF 1500Z: A big ice-
berg observed at 6644/2103 off Húnaflói. Some
small blocks around it.
24/9 Alfa 1735Z: A large iceberg sighted at
6340/3640 (rather unusual position).
27/9 Árvakur 1500Z: A big iceberg sighted
290° true 4 miles off Cape Straumnes.
