1862, where the passage corresponding to C 1-10,
14-95 occupies pp. 41-47. KrR I 28-39 contain an
account of Cain and his descendants whose contents
correspond to C 44-95. The possibility that C is here
a prose rendering of KrR can be excluded, however,
partly because C is much more detailed than KrR,
partly because C and the old Stjórn texts often
agree word for word, cf. the following instance:
Stjórn, p. 46
þessi Lamech uar hinn mesti
bogmaðr. ok sem hann hafdi
langan alldr lifat. uard
hann blindr badum augum.
hafdi ser þa einn ungan mann
fyrir augnasuein. sua sem
hann for at ueida. hæfandi
af hans tiluisan huat er
hann uilldi.
C 76-81
þessi Lamech var hinn mesti
bogmadur og sem hann hafdi
langann alldur lifad. vard

umm. hafdi hann þá hia sier
eirn vænann mann firir augna
svein þegar hann for ad veida.
hæfdi Lamech af sveinsens
tilvysan hvad er hann villdi.
95- 96 These lines about Adam’s age and the
number of his descendants are a prose rendering
of KrR I 27-29.
96- 198 Leg. The B text is followed very closely.
A number of small passages are added, some of
which derive from KrR, see p. lxxxii. The other pas-
sages are probably to be ascribed to the compiler
of C: 104 til paradysar, 121 og hðlldnu, 135-36 umm—
gietid, 139 allann vagxinn, 152 og^-sied, 158 enn-pad,
165 og-trua, 172-73 sem2-paradys, 192 900-gamall
(repetition of C 95), 197-98 og blomstrumm, 198 umm
langa tyma. C 118-20, where the symbol Bethel is
referred to, is much altered (cf. B 36-37).
199-222 This section, which deals with Adam’s
descendants, agrees with the Bible, Genesis 5-10.
The Bible has also been employed at 252-55, 292,
344-57, 385-400, 437, 440-42, 477, 478, 483-84, 593-
603, 631-34, 662-64, 805-8. Three of these passages
demonstrate with certainty that the compiler of C
