Other inaccuracies: in I 29.3 útsíiaraður-par and
IV 48.2 /ara-húsgjörð«r the first rhyme appears a
syllable too early; in stanzas III 20.1 and V 41.1
the alliteration is insufficient; some lines have an
alliterating syllable in excess, i.e. I 73.4, II 37.3, 62.4,
IV 11.2, 50.2, V 3.2, 33.2 and 49.2; double alliter-
ation is found in IV 6.1 and 14.2.
Notes on the language of KrR
In íslenzk Tunga V, p. 7 ff. Stefán Karlsson has
demonstrated that in the work of a rímur-poet who
was a contemporary of Sigurður Jónsson but from
another part of the land, namely Jón Guðmundsson
í Rauðseyjum, there are traces of the preservation
of old vowel quantities. In Sigurður Jónsson’s work
there are several instances which demonstrate the
new quantities. For example, he makes long and short
vowels rhyme: I 46 geði-réði, also in a couple of
instances where the rhymes are in any case incorrect:
I 28 ólu—tölu, 56 honum (or hönum)-raunum. In the
first ríma, which is composed in a verse-form in
which the stem-syllable of the rhyming words in
the second and fourth lines ouglit, according to the
old rules, to be long, are found 2 meður-slceður,
14 boða-loða, 31 stela-fela, 41 vetur-betur, 76 daga-
