Mr. and Mrs. Karty Hall-
dorson attended graduation
ceremonies May 29 at NDSU,
Fargo, where their son, Jo-
seph received a bachelor of
science degree in civil engi-
neering. They also attended
commencement at Moorhead,
State C o 11 e g e , Moorhead,
June 10 where their daughter,
Arliss received a bachelor of
science degree in education.
She has signed a contract for
the 1970-71 term at the Wad-
enia, Minn. public school.
Mr. and Mrs. Karl Magnus-
son of Gardar were honored
at the G a r d a r Lutheran
Church Sunday evening, June
14. They have moved to Bell-
ingharn, Wash., to make their
home.
Mrs. John H. Johnson, sist-
er of Mr. Magnusson, was at
the guest book and gift table.
John H. Johnson, Jr., and
Mrs. Alvin Melsted poured,
An orchid corsage and rose
boutonniere were presented
the couple by Freeman Mel-
sted.
Many friends and relatives
greeted the Magnussons. The
committee in charge of ar-
rangements included: Mrs.
Alvin Melsted, chrm., and
Mmes. John H. Johnson, Sig-
run Sigurdson, Joe Olafson,
Moritz Laxdal, John H. John-
son, jr., Cecil Sigurdson, Paul
Sigm-dson, Stefan Melsted,
Joe W. Hall, Magnus Olafson,
Sigurd Isfeld, John F. John-
son and Eyolfur Jonasson.
Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Snydal,
Hensel, were Tuesday even-
ing, June 16, dinner guests of
Mrs. John B. Snydal. The
Snydals left Thursday by
plane from Grand Forks for
Iceland where they will visit
for about three weeks. They
were accompanied on the trip
by Mr. and Mrs. John B.
Reese of Roseau, Minn., form-
er Crystal residents.
Mrs. T. H. Steinolfson was
honored June 14 when friends
and relatives gathered at her
home for a picnic dinner.
Guests were Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Steinolfson and Laura,
West Fargo; Irvin Troftgrub-
en, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Stein-
olfson, Louise and Lavonne,
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Lee and
Michael, Edinburg; Mr. and

Mr. and Mrs. Stoney Steinolf-
soA and Karen, Bloomington,
Minn.; Fru Thorbjorg Hall-
dor, Hofniun, Iceland; Mr.

Mrs. Steinolfson was born
June 17, 1882 on her father’s
homestead, which is now the
S. B. Sigurdson farm. She
married Mr. Steinolfson in
1912. He died in 1961. She has
three sons, Sam, West Fargo;
Mike of Edinburg and Marino
of Mountain; one daughter,
Mrs. Kristine Farrell, Graf-
ton. A son, Stoney, was killed
in action during World War
II.
Mrs. Steinolfson lives alone
on her farm southeast of
Mountain. She keeps house,
bakes her own bread and
cookies, tends her f 1 o w e r
garden and house plants. She
enjoys serving coffee to
friends and relatives who
visit here.
OBITUARIES
Bjarni O. Johannsson. 94,
formerly of the Mountain
area, died at Ballard, Wash.,
May 10.
He was born in Iceland,
coming to the U. S. in 1887,
settling in Pembina county.
He went to Seattle in 1901
to study at the University of
Washington, graduating from
the school of pharmacy in
1904. He owned and operated
the Cascade Drug store in
Ballard for 36 years, retiring
in 1946.
Survivors are his wife,
Aleph; a son, Lincoln S.; three
daughters, Mrs. Donald Hast-
ings, Mrs. Cleo Vadnais and

Mrs. Eugene Robel; eight
grandchildren, seven great-
grandchildren, all of the Se-
attle area.
The Johannsson home is at
7112 28th Aven. N. W. Seattle,
Wash., 98107.
Mrs. Frida Helgason, 82,
Grand Forks, formerly of the
Gardar area, died May 18.
Mrs. Helgason, the former
Frida Peterson, was bom in
1887 at Winnipeg. She receiv-
ed her education there and
later, as a young woman,
went with her parents to
Shelby, Mont. She married
Benedict Helgason in 1920 at
Crookston. Following t h e i r
marriage they farmed at Gar-
dar where she resided until
moving to Grand Forks in
1966.
Her husband died in 1948
and she is survived by a son,
M a g n u s Helgason, Grand
Forks, and four grandchil-
dren. A daughter, Joy, died
in 1924 and three brothers
also preceded her in death.
Asvaldur K. Hall, 86, Wyn-
yard, Sask., native of the
Gardar area, died at Wyn-
yard.
Bom in Gardar township
Feb. 11, 1884, son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Hall, he
attended school there and re-
sided in that area until 1905
w h e n he homesteaded in
Wynyard. He farmed until
retiring.
A performer on piano and
clarinet, he played for dances
an dother community activies
for many years as a youth.
Survivors are his wife, the
f o r m e r Laufey Johnson,
whom he married at Wyn-
yard; three sons, Franklin and
Arnie, managers of the home
farm; Jonas in California; two
daughters, both in west coast
states; several grandchildren;
two brothers, Jacob and
Frank Hall, both of Edinburg.
Services were held May 7
at Vikur Lutheran church in
Mountain for Thorbergur M.
Sigurdson, 77, formerly of
Mountain, who died in Seat-
tle. The Rev. Harold Manson
officiated. Interment was in
Vikur cemetery. Jensen Fun-
eral Home, Edinburg, was in
charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Sam, Don-
ald, Laverne, Harold Sigurd>
son, Walter Lillquist, Richard
Blair. Honorary pallbearers
were C. S. Gudmundson, H.
K. Halldorson, Valdi Halldor-
son, Ole Thorsteinson, Mundi
Benjaminson, G. L. Jonasson,
Alli Thomasson, G. G. Gest-
son, Larry Johnson.
Mrs. G. M. (Gudrun) Benja-
minson, 68, Edinburg, died
Monday, June 8,
Mrs. Benjaminson, the for-
mer Gudrun Halldorson, was
bom in Thingvalla township,
Pembina county, June 22,
1901, the daughter of the late
Kristjan and Maria Halldor-
son. She was married at the
family farm home June 25,
1924, to G. M. Benjaminson.
Following their marriage they
lived at Crystal and then
from 1924 to 1932 resided at
Gardar. Since 1932 they had
lived at Edinburg.
She was a member of Ey-
ford Church and was active
in church work. She was also
a member of the Pembina
County Pioneer Daughters.
Surviving are her husband;
two daughters, Mrs. Gordon
(Marjorie) Mohagen of Graf-
ton and Mrs. Orvin (Bemice)
Koukol of Sacramento, Calif.;
two sons, Paul Benjaminson
of Grafton and George Benja-
minson of Kirkland, Wash.; a
sister, Mrs. Bamey (Molly)
Johnson of Sacramento; four
brothers, Halldor, Walter,
Gisli and Karty Halldorson,
all of Mountain; and seven
grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren. She was pre-
ceded in death by her parents
and three sisters.
