In February, 1899, the first Ice-
landic settlers arrived at Brown,
Manitoba to begin working on
their chosen lands.
The first Icelandic settlers to or-
rive in Grunnavatnsbyggð, the
area around Lundar, Manitoba,
came in the spring of 1887.
In the early 1900’s a group of
Icelandic families attempted a
settlement on Hunter Island, at
the northwest boundary of Fitz

and by 1930, all of the settlers
