Win Again
The election campaigns are
now, finally, over . . . all the
MANY posters have been taken
down . . . and the results, if you
don 't already know them, were as
follows:
The Stúdentaráð (Student
Council) and Háskólaráð
(University Council) elections,
which took place on Thursday
February 25. have both been won
for the third consecutive year by
Röskva. Röskva received just over
55% of the valid votes while
Vaka, the “opposition" received
just under 45%, which means that
Röskva retain their 16 seats in
Stúdentaráð and Vaka their 14.
There were 5,026 students on
Voter’s List, of whom 2.899 or
57.6% voted.
The Results of the
Stúdentaráð Election
Vaka: 1,183 votes or 40.8%
(ie. 6 men chosen).
Röskva: 1.464 votes or 50,5%
(ie. 7 men chosen).-
Blank and invalid ballot
sheets: 251 or 8.6%.
Counting just the completed
and valid ballot sheets, Vaka
received 44,7% of the votes and
Röskva 55,3%.
The Results of the
Háskólaráð Elections
Vaka: 1,191 votes or 41% (ie.
1 man chosen).
Röskva: 1,480 votes or 51%
(ie. 1 man chosen).
Blank and invalid ballot
sheets: 228 or 7,8%.
Counting just the completed
and valid ballot sheets Vaka
received 44,6% of the votes and
Röskva 55,4%. NB. The
Háskólaráð representatives also
have seats in Stúdentaráð.
Voted twice
During the Stúdentaráð and
Háskólaráð elections, one student
voted twice. Due to some mistake,
the student was registered as
studying in two faculties and
voted at each faculty’s polling
station. The Election committe
decided to do nothing about this
matter at the time, but sent a
report to Háskólaráð and
Stúdentaráð.
A statement from the Rector’s
office says that Háskólaráð will
not be taking any action in this
matter, and that the Rector thinks
the explanation given by the
student in question is satisfactory.
The Foreign Students
Union “Árshátíðarball”
On Friday March 5th, Félag
erlendra stúdenta, held their
Árshátíðarball in association with
Félag sagnfræðinema (Society of
History Students) and Félag nema
í málvísindum (Sociely of
Linguistics Students). The ball,
which began at midnight and
continued until 3.00am, was held
at Holiday Inn - the venue for the
Félag sagnfræðinema's Árshátíð
Dinner, which they held
beforehand. Everyone seemed to
enjoy themselves very much
indeed and, as President of Félag
erlendra stúdenta, I would like to
thank Félag sagnfræðinema and
Félag nema í málvísindum for
inviting us to join in with them.
