Executive Director - London European Medicines Agency
The mission of the European Medicines Agency is to foster
scientific excellence in the evaluation and supervision
of medicines, for the benefit of public and animal health.
The Executive Director is the legal representative and public
face of the EMA and accountable to the Management Board.
He/she will lead and manage the Agency taking overall
responsibility for its operations, ensuring the achievement
of the Agency’s objectives in line with the European
pharmaceutical legislation. In 2011 the Agency’s budget
will be around €250 million and around 650 staff. The key
tasks will be managing all the Agency resources necessary
for conducting the activities of its scientific committees and
ensuring that time limits for adoption of Agency opinions
are complied with. The Executive Director will also draft and
implement the Agency’s annual work programme. He/she will
know how to lead and motivate a large team preferably
in a multicultural environment.
Applicants must be a national of a Member State of the
European Union or the EEA, holding a university degree
diploma ideally as a physician, a pharmacist or a veterinarian.
This will be coupled with extensive professional experience
in a comparable role, ideally acquired in a national, European
or international public administration involving contacts
with the pharmaceutical industry. Applicants will also
have developed knowledge of relevant regulatory policy
and practice, as well as knowledge of EU financial and
administrative rules and procedures. Applicants will have
strong interpersonal, negotiation and budgetary
management skills, gained in an international context
and will be able to communicate effectively to the public
and national/international bodies. Applicants must have
a thorough knowledge of at least two EU official languages.
Applicants will have excellent communication skills in English.
