This issue’s picker is the versatile Sigrún Skafta. By day, she
runs casual downtown restaurant Bergsson; by night she spins
discs, bringing fresh house and techno to the masses. She says
she started out in the late Faktorý with the Kanil gang, but now
her music has brought her to Canada, Denmark, Sweden, and
Switzerland. Sigrún is one of the founders of the female-only
Affair DJ collective, which she says is a feminist initiative that
aims to get more women involved in the DJ scene and “fuck the
patriarchy.”
You can find the events our picker of the issue found to be
interesting spread out over the music and art pages, marked with

Did you see Wu-Tang at Secret Solstice? Public Enemy at ATP?
Yeah, we’re tired of all that mainstream rap too. Good thing,
then, that Radio Iceland in collaboration with Artivist Events is
presenting a night of under-the-radar hip-hop. With acts like
Shades of Reykjavík, Valby Bræður, Alexander Jarl, Holy
Hrafn, Binno Bo, Átrunarargoðin, and Alvía Islandía, it’ll satisfy
all of your underground needs. Grab that snapback (remember to
keep the sticker on), clean your coolest kicks, and get ready to nod
your head. Who knows—you might just see the next big thing. HJC
