partly on Landn. or Olaf s saga Tryggvasonar (see Landn. 1900,
pp. 134—5, 157—9; Fms. I 242-9). It seems rather more likely
that AJ used the Fms.-text in preference to Landn., because the
information about the family is presented more compactly there;
all the same, this is by no means certain, cf. also note to II 11826—
1208. Among details which in all probability have been taken
from Laxdæla saga is Ioruna manvitz brecka in 11. 6—8, who
is named with her brothers and sisters in Laxd. s. ch. 1, but
who in Landn. and Fms. I does not appear until later and then in
a different connection (Landn. 1900, p. 212; Fms. I 251). The
remark on Hrutr Herjolfsson’s 26 children is derived from
Laxd. s. ch. 19, but is not in Landn.-Fms. BårSr Hpskuldsson
(1. 20) is spoken of in Laxd. s. ch. 9 and later, and in Landn.
1900, p. 159, but he does not appear in Fms. I. In 1. 13 only
four daughters of Lorsteinn rau8r are named, while all the sourc-
es name six; the four named are the ones who in Laxd. s. chs.
5—6 are said to have been married in Iceland.—On the other
hånd, Hrappr Bjarnarson (1. 3) and his descendants do not ap-
pear in Laxd. s. and must have been taken from Landn.-Fms.
11 826—1208 Derived from the version in Landn.-Fms. I (Landn.
1900, pp. 135, 151—2, 157; Fms. I 245-7), supplemented by
material from Eyrbyggja saga, chs. 1-4 (Laxdæla saga here has
a different account). Most of the passage II 11 g5-27 comes at
any rate from Eyrbyggja s., although some points in it are also to
be found in Landn.-Fms. Eyrbyggja s. is alone, for example, in
reporting Bjprn austræni’s connection with Lårolfr mostrarskegg
and in tracing Oleifr hviti’s descent from SigurcSr ormr-i-auga.
Cf. also ch. III no. 19 in the Introduction above. Rafurta (II
j jgsr-ss^ js ajSQ probably taken from Eyrbyggja s. ch. x, since in
Landn.-Fms. she is only mentioned in a completely different con-
nection (Landn. 1900, p. 193; Fms. I 250). Otherwise, for
that matter, the passage II 11928—1208 can also have been de-
rived from Laxd. s.

—223°, see notes ad loc. The source was probably the text in
Fms. I, although as far as the material itself goes, it could
equally well have been Laxd. s. In Crymogæa AJ has altered the
