26012'16.—In by far the majority of these instances the reading
is also found in Sk (in one or two cases only in some of the manu-
scripts) ; only the following have nothing corresponding to them
in the extant manuscripts of Sk: 1) III I791317’20-23: 1° extant
manuscripts these two small additions on Naddoddr and GarSarr
occur only in H. But they both occur also in Skålh., where they
must be derived either directly from H or from some lost manu-
script of Sk. If the latter is the case, the possibility exists that
AJ read these sentences in the copy of Sk he used. 2) III 18438—
1853: Here AJ repeats verbatim a short passage from Landn.
The wording (see note ad loc.) would, if anything, suggest H as
the source, especially the reading 1851—2 audu lande = H, where
S has obygdu 1., and SkE>: avfrn Landi (+ og 3, E>) obygdu (a
combination of H and S) ; cf. also 1851 er = H, 111; var the
rest; 1852 fyrst = H; fyrstr the rest. On the other hånd at 1852
AJ has J)ad = SSkL, which is lacking in H.
All the other readings which show particular agreement with
H also occur in Sk, and thus are not necessary derived from H.
Before we continue, it will be proper to list the cases where
AJ agrees with Sk alone (including L in this group) against the
other redactions. For the time being however we exclude the
particular instances of agreement between AJ and 111 alone, of
which more later. The readings in question are given in the notes
to the following passages: III 18534, I931_2,4’7i 2067, 2084,
21233, 21516, 22212, 22325, 224*1 23321, 23420’36, 24o13-19-34,

2 5 2 33,34~35, 2 5 433, 25517, 25630, 2611, 2662.—In most cases AJ
agrees only with some of the Sk-manuscripts, sometimes with
only one or two of them. Most correspondences are with the
group 1147, 109, 1 io; fewer with 104 or 3 and 108. The only
possible explanation of this seems to be that AJ used a manu-
script of Sk which was more closely related to the 1147-group
than to the autograph copy which was the original of 104. This
can be accounted for in two ways: 1) Bjorn å SkarSså had him-
self made more than one copy of Sk and lent his oldest copy to
AJ. 2) Bjorn had made or caused to be made a copy of his first
