2345_s>21, 237®. 2) Where it is a question of unimportant varia-
tions in spelling, see e.g. the variants to II 23122, 234®’", 23914'22,
24123, 2422, etc. 3) Trivial transpositions of single words, see the
variants to II 23932, 24424, 2508, 25433, 26316. 4) Individual syno-
nyms and the like where both readings are equally good, see the
variants to II 23027, 23127, 23611, 23923, 2411, 24320, 24412, 24628,
2478’21, 24914, 25025, 256"’17 (here BC’s reading should be pre-
ferred, see notes), 2616. Some of these last readings may well be
due to later alterations in the author’s autograph version, made
after A had been copied from it, but they are all quite insigni-
ficant.
The text is a diplomatic version of A, though the punctuation
has been normalised to a moderate degree and the usual ligatures
(which are, as it happens, very rare) silently expanded. For typo-
graphical reasons æ has been used for the manuscript’s ? in the
word tænia, 234®; otherwise the manuscript always has æ. In the
apparatus criticus are quoted all variants from B1 (and B2 where
B1 is defective, cf. above, p. 339) and C. No attention has been
paid however to purely orthographic variants in BC, such as,
e.g., 0: o (thus most often Grønland- in B2), i: ij, y (= i in Ice-
landic words; most often ij in B), oe: æ, æ: e, th: t, ci: ti.—In
the textual notes the symbol < indicates ‘corrected from’, > ‘cor-
rected to’.
