other manuscripts of the group. The Icelagdic manuscripts, A-P, range
over quite a long period from c. 1300 onwards. Taking account of the
increasing angularization of the letter-forms during the late Middle
Ages, we have arrived at a very tentative classification with MS / as
the flag-bearer, followed at uddistance by MSS F, M, B, A, P; with
MSS E, G, K, N (?), O as the 'middle’ group; and with MSS C, H, L,
D (the latter only as regards the prayers) making up the rear-guard.
Four calendars have been identified as formerly belonging together
with our MSS A, B, C, F, and a fifth one has some affinity to MS s.
These calendars are all derived from the Nidaros Ordinary of the early
thirteenth century (ON), with the addition of the feasts of the Icelandic
saints and other saints proper to Iceland. They also include some
feasts of saints that were added to the Nidaros Ordinary in the course
of the thirteenth century and later, and are therefore likely to fumish us
with some chronological data. Some of these feasts have been added in
the margins of the Ordinary (see ON, pp. 75-79).
The first five columns of the following table list all the entries in the
Icelandic calendars not found in the ON; the penultimate column lists
items found as marginal additions to the ON; the last column marks
items found in the Missale Nidrosiense 1519. For the wealth of
anniversaries and annalistic notices added to these calendars, with
which we are not concemed here, see J. Eorkelsson, op. cit.
