‘not before 1150’; for a description of the manuscript with a biblio-
graphy, see K. Berg, Studies in Tuscan Twelfth-Century Illumination
(Oslo 1968), pp. 236-38.
The Marian prayers of the Marturi Psalter were published by Barré,
Priéres anciennes, pp. 236-44, who found the work of the monk John,
as an Organizer of texts and as a copyist, far below the standard of the
illuminators. For a study of the psalter as a whole, with an edition of
the prayer texts contained in it, see Lemarié 1981, nos.
31-43.

[1952], pp. 74-75, a libellus precum, written in the last quarter of the
eleventh century for the use of a woman.
Some texts from this collection were published by Wilmart,
L’Office du Crucifix contre l’angoisse: EL 46 (1932), pp. 421-34, and
also in Auteurs spirituels, pp. 571 sqq., 578 sq. The Marian prayers
contained in it were published by H. Barré, Priéres anciennes, pp. 272
sqq., with a communication by B. Bischoff on the provenance of the
manuscript. While previous writers attributed it to Saint-Gall, Bischoff
places it in South Germany. On textual criteria Barré proposes the
nunnery of St. Mary’s, Regensburg, as the home of the manuscript. It
contains, ff. 112v-125r, under the rubric Cursus Apostolorum, an
elaborate Office with prayers of intercession directed to each apostle
individually. This Office was published by Leclercq 1968, pp. 134-
54.
The Cursus Apostolorum, a well-composed whole, begins by a
general invocation in litanic form:
‘Deus propicius esto mihi peccatrici. Deus in adiutorium meum
intende. Per merita apostolorum Petri (all the Apostles enumerated)...
(113r) Rogo Michahelem.. . Rogo abraham. .. Rogo heliam Hiere-
miam et sanctum Iohannem babtistam.. . (113v) Rogo Petrum Paulum
