The Hours of the Passion have also been edited from the early
fifteenth-century York Psalter, Cambridge, Trinity College, MS 1182.3
They belong to the ACEFG family. The thirty-eight manuscripts listed
in the Franciscan edition have been described by the editors as prayer-
books, or books of miscellaneous devotional contents. Exceptionally,
in Iceland and in York, this text has been added to a psalter.4 See
Plates 87-89.

1920), Appendix III, pp. 168-74.
4 The late-medieval Icelandic Hours, Brit. Mus. MS Add. 4895, ff. 82v-85r contain
another Office of the Passion, de sancta cruce, beginning ‘Patris sapientia, veritas
divina, Christus homo captus est, hora matutina’ (AH 30, no. 13). See Plate 133. In the
manuscripts this Office, as so many other devotional texts, is often wrongly
attributed to Pope John XXII. In some late-medieval English sources it has been
adopted for the daily commemoration of the Passion (see the Monastic Breviary of
Hyde Abbey, 6 = HBS 80 [1942], pp. 134 sqq.), likewise in the Breviarium Slesvicense
1512, ff. A.xxiiij sqq., preceded by the rubric: Sequuntur conclusiones horarum. In the
Horae Eboracenses, op. cit., pp. 46 sqq., it has been intertwined with the Lady Office. It
is also extant in two Danish Hours, ed. MDB 1, pp. 59-62.
