this edition pp. 1-18), is not in his hand but in
that of a scribe who would seem to have been
Norwegian, since he distinguishes witli certainty be-
tween the vowels æ and œ and omits h before l, r4; cf.
alsothe Norwegian form 85 pessur neut. pl. for pessi.

times:

In the present edition abbreviations have been
expanded without the use of italicised letters and
there are fewer notes than in F. Jónsson’s Hb-edition,
partly because it has been possible to refer to this
edition and partly because a facsimile edition of Hb
is now available.
With the aid of ultra-violet light it has been possible to
distinguish more accents and full-stops than were observed
by Finnur Jónsson (cf. the Hb-edition, p. xxxii) and a few
accents and symbols can now be read with greater accuracy,
thus, for example, 111 brœðr, read as bröðr by F. Jónsson;
the MS’s œ is o with the loop of an e and it can be difficult
to distinguish from ö; 124 óll, read as óll by F. Jónsson.
A few readings in this edition differ from those found
in the Hb-edition: 43 and 46 suar + the fr-symbol has
been expanded as suarar, while the Hb-edition has suaraði
(43 svaraði in AN, HMS; 46 svarar in AN, svaraði in HMS).
A similar use of the ír-symbol in connection with forms
of the verb svara occurs in AM 519a.4to (Alexanders saga),
e.g. 2r5 svar&r, but also 15vl8 smrat5. 58 reads i (thus also
in AN, HMS), while the Hb-edition has a.
