healing pool Bethesda is mentioned in the Bible,
St John 5, and in Itinerarium p. 12.
440-42 These lines about Solomon’s fame and the
gifts he received from other lands are taken from
Þorláksbiblía I Kings 10 and II Chronicles 9.
442-583 Leg. Here the compiler of C treats his
B source much more freely than in the first half
of Leg., 96-198. He tells the story in his own words
rather than copies from his source. It is, therefore,
impossible to point out with the same degree of
accuracy as for 96-198 which passages do not have
parallels in B.
531-35 and 575-76 contain Leg. material which
is not found in B, see p. lxxxiii.
From Þorláksbiblía, I Kings 10 and II Chronicles 9,
derive the following passages: 477 gimsteina og,
478 og-gulls, 483-84 ogl-lðndumm.
Additions from unknown sources are: 472 og-
egtamenn, 538 eirn-hiet, 539-41 ad-drottning, 541-42
sem-var, 547-48 pad-ár (cf. 818-19). Several of these
are probably to be ascribed to the compiler of C,
thus 538 (see p. lxi), 541-42, and perhaps also 539-41.
There are occasional corruptions and misunder-
standings: 464-66 brœdur-minni, cf. B 136-37 menn—
saman, 467 ad-fiöll, cf. B 139 m-fiell.
583-93 These lines are an excerpt from Itinerari-
um’s chapter “Om Jerusalems Stads Mure”, pp. 17-18.
593-603 The passage derives from Þorláksbiblía.
Lines 593-97 tell of Solomon’s wealtli. The sums of
money which David handed on to Solomon for the
building of the Temple are named in I Chronicles 22
and 29. If these sums are added together, the total
agrees with C (cf. the critical apparatus). The account
of Solomon’s many wives and concubines who, in
his old age, lead him astray to the worship of idols
(597-603) derives from I Kings 11. According to C
