texts in these MSS and C has not, however, been examined
in this edition.
Itmerarium (see p. lxxxv) has been translated three
times into Icelandic, partly from Latin, partly from one of
the Danish editions (see Skrá III p. 487). A section of the
work is found in Lbs. 286.4to “Utlagt af Latinu a Norrænu
af Sira Sigurde Einarssyne 1620” (minister at Saurbær in
Eyjafjörður). Several MSS contain a translation made
by Bishop Oddur Einarsson (f 1630), presumably from the
Latin edition, since the title is quoted in Latin. There
also exists a translation, dating, according to JS 79.4to,
from 1670, made by Nikulás Guðmundsson, the minister on
Flatey, probably from a Danish edition, since the Danish
title has been translated. Besides the MSS named in Skrá,
Add. 11,153 in the British Museum also contains an excerpt
from Itinerarium, treating, among other things, of the
four rivers that run from Paradise, of the Dead Sea and
of Lot (ff. 167v-170r).
Some Icelandic excerpts from Historiarum Sacrarum
Encolpodion (see p. xciv) are preserved in the following
MSS: Lbs 1960.8vo contains “Nockrer Greijner edur Lijtid
agrip vt af þeirrj Bök er Nichulaus Helvaderus hefir giort oc
hann kallar Sacrarum Historiarum Encolpodion”; ÍBR
3.8vo has a “Chronologia Jesu Christi”, pp. 1-18 (this is
the title in the Danish edition of the first seetion of the work
ff. l-156r); AM 124.8vo contains ff. 76v-77v an excerpt
“Umm Daíída og Endalyckt Herodis sem liet myrda þau
saklausu born”.
Sections of Carion’s Cronica are translated in Add. 11,153
and in AM 417.4to (see p. xcii f.). In addition a MS in
Iceland, ÍB 776.8vo, contains “Lijted Agrip ... ut af
Cronicu Iohannis Carjonis”.
