Three MSS, ÍB 205.8vo, JS 397.8vo and Lbs
575.4to, contain a Leg. text which seems to derive
from F4. These texts never agree with F1 against F4.
The 205 text may be a transcript of F4 but not of
397 or 575, for these MSS have a common error which
is not found in 205: 119-20 Nockrer-meinsemdar
(for F4 cf. the critical apparatus)] e/ nockrir á eýde-
morkenne urdusœrder (aflýdnum) aformum ogskadsöm-
um 397 and 575. These two texts may derive from
F4 but not from 205, for the latter has a number of
variant readings which are not found in 397 and 575,
e.g. 42 einglanna (for fuglanna, cf. the critical
apparatus). The 575 text is probably a transcript
of the 397 text, for the latter agrees on several
occasions with F4 against the 575 text, e.g. 163
rótsette 397, rótfesti 575, whereas there are no in-
stances where 575 agrees with F4 against 397.
The text in the edition is taken from F1. As few
emendations as possible have been made and these
only where the text is unintelligible because of
corruption or omissions (see also p. cxcm). There
will occasionally be found readings in the critical
apparatus from F2 4 which agree more closely with
L than F1 does.
All the variant readings in F2 are given in the
critical apparatus. In the section of F, 1-105, which
can be compared with E, readings from F3-4 are
included when they agree with E, or when E and F
differ from each other. After F 105 all variants are
included which F3 and F4 have in common against F1.
After F 148, where F3 concludes, all F4’s variant
readings are given. No variant readings are given
from the texts derived from F4 in 205, 397 and 575.
