The translation of the Latin Leg. thus survives
as follows:
L 1-7: only in E.
L 7-17: lacking in E and F (rendered in KrR).
L 17-95: in both E and F.
L 95-244: only in F.
The agreement between L and F is less marked
in the second half of Leg. (from L 95 and F 105)
than in the first half. The account in F is frequently
less detailed than that in L and there are several
passages in L which are without parallel in F,
e.g. 100-1 Cumque-populo, 107 panno-involvit, 112-22
Contigit-Josue, 134 Nona-Thabor, 160-73 Exactis-
dominus, 228-30 ciscitabant-Crucifigatur, 234-38 Et-
Calvarie, 241-42 factus-mortem.
The translation in EF often has similar words and
expressions to those in A (or B), see, for example,
the following instance:
L 19-21 Cepit ergo contristari et in intimo meditari quod
multa mala videbat pulluiare in mundo ex posteritate sua;
cepit eum tedere vite sue.
A 15-17 ok tok at ryggiaz ok hugleiða mart. þuiat hann sá
mikinn vandskap upp renna i heimlnum af sínu afkvœmí, ok
leiddiz honum þa lengr at lifa.
E 33-35, F 4-7 tok rhann þa (-j- F) ad hriggast harla mióg
og huxa hiartannlega huórsu marga illa hluti hann sa framm-
fara af sijnu afkuœmi i heiminum. leiddist honum ad lifa.
It does not, however, seem possible to conclude
that A (B) on the one side and EF on the other
derive from the same translation. The similarities
may be explained as due to the fact that the two
translators, independently of each other, chose the
same Icelandic word to translate a Latin one.
There are, however, a couple of agreements be-
tween A (B) and EF whicli need special comment.
As mentioned above, the text L 7-17 is lacking
in E, and F only begins with L 17. In A (B) L 7-15
