The original KrR text has no parallel expression
(cf. V 37, 38).
A peculiar characteristic of the orthography of F2
is the omission of i between k, g and a, u, e.g.,
ldœlca, prigga, leinga, hyggu, tigga, seggum, þyka,
veykast (verb), bryggan, drykkar. F2 has svo, svoddan
(once soddan), svona, whereas F3 does not have v
in these forms.
A prose rendering of KrE
A prose rendering of KrR is found in one MS,
Lbs 714.8vo, ff. 36-42 (printed in this edition pp.
148-56). There are no scribal errors that point to the
text’s being a transcript. The MS, which also contains
a text of the prose version B, has been described
above p. li. In some sections the words of the
prose rendering closely follow those of the rímur, cf.
the following sample where the rhymes are retained:
The prose rendering 69-70
far nu flötlega og bu þig
ad birta þetta einglenum.
snu þier til austurs. þar
er su rietta leid til Eden.
Krlt I 59
Fardu nu bratt þig bu
berdu (var. birtu) eingle þetta
til austurs snu og er þad su
til Eden leidinn rietta.
In other sections of the work, however, the prose
text is much less close to the rímur. No account is
given of the mansöngvar with the exception of that
of the fourth ríma (chap. 6), cf. p. clxxii f.
The prose rendering is divided into 9 chapters,
covering the five rímur as follows:
Chap. 1. I 16-39.
Chap. 2. I 40-83.
Chap. 3. II 8-49.
Chap. 4. II 50-66.
Chap. 5. III 4-57.
Chap. 6. IV 3-14.
Chap. 7. IV 19-45.
