shown, and fig. 9 shows their total number in each of these
localities. The total number recorded from the city of
Reykjavík is about 100, of these 78 species were found at
the Reykjavík dumps, especially in the period 1944—1960.
In addition there are given below some records of foreign
species at localities in or around Reykjavík.
Dvergur in Reykjavík. A fish factory and an area for
storing timber. In the period 1948—1950 altogether 17 spe-
cies of foreign plants were found, of which the rarer ones
were: Suaeda maritima, Vaccaria parviflora, Geranium
Róbertianum, Torilis anthriscus, Lactuga scaricola and
Petasites hybridus.
Fossvogur in Reykjavík. In ditches in a forestry nur-
sery, that dates from 1933, many foreign species are to
be found, amongst others large individuals of Valeriana
officinalis, and Stellaria graminea grows in large tangles.
Myosotis palustris is also spreading as is Epilobium adeno-
caulon, a recent invader. At the edges of the ditches one
finds the following foreign species: Plantago major, Vale-
riana officinalis, Galium mollugo, Cirsium arvense, Achilla
ptarmica, Senecio vulgaris, Tussilago farfara and Matri-
caria matricariodes. Saxifraga granulata which has grown
for several years in the forestry nursery in Fossvogur,
seems to have disappeared, but it grows now in the neigh-
bourhood of the fishmeals fabric at Klettur in Reykjavík.
Reykjavík Airport. In the autumn of 1959 the following
23 foreign species were found at the airport, chiefly in
the vicinity of a storage house: Agropyron Smithii, Hor-
deum jubatum, Bromus arvensis, Fagopyrum sagittatum,
Chenopodium album, Rumex crispus, R. obtusifolius,
Thlaspi arvense, Th. alpestre, Lepidium campestre, Bar-
barea vulgaris, Sisymbrium officinale, Rorippa silvestris,
Sinapis arvensis, Erysimum cheiranthoides, Melilotus offi-
cinalis, Galium aparine, Veronica hederifolia, Linaria vul-
garis, Avena sativa, Hordeum pólystichum, Triticum aest-
ivum and Secale cereale.
