4. Tussilago farfara (hóffífill) (fig. 4).
This species is recorded in old plant lists, but appears
to have died out. In 1934 Gísli Gestsson rediscovered the
species on a dump in Reykjavík, SW-Iceland, where it has
been growing and spreading since. During World War II
the species was probably accidentally carried to several
localities and it is now found growing in many places in
Reykjavík and also in Hafnarfjörður and surroundings,
SW-Iceland. It has also been recorded from Keflavík and
Sandgerði, Gullbringusýsla, SW-Iceland; Hveragerði, Ár-
nessýsla, SW-Iceland; Hvoll, Þjórsárdalur, Laugarvatn and
Efri-Brú, all in Árnessýsla, S-Iceland; Akranes, W-Ice-
land; Borgarnes, Mýrasýsla, W-Iceland; Bíldudalur, Barða-
strandarsýsla, NW-Iceland (1950); ísafjörður (the city)
and Reykjanesskóli (since 1944, in geothermal soil) in Isa-
fjarðarsýsla, NW-Iceland; Akureyri, N-Iceland; and Seyð-
isfjörður, E-Iceland. The species appears now to have be-
come completely established in several localities. [In Þjórs-
árdalur, S-Iceland, the species was found growing far away
