The article describes four joint Dan-
ish-Icelandic geological expeditions to
Iceland and the two Danish trips that
preceded these. The trips were led by
Th. Bjerring Pedersen, geologist, while
the four expeditions were led by Dr.
Niels Nielsen, geographer from the
University of Copenhagen. Several
Danish and Icelandic geologists partici-
pated in the expeditions. The investi-
gations involved mapping and making
various measurements and general ob-
servations in areas in the western and
southern Central Highland and the
western part of Vatnajökull. These are
volcanic areas and the expeditions fo-
cused on subglacial volcanic eruption
products and related phenomena, gen-
eral landscape evolution, and especial-
ly the 1934 eruption in Grímsvötn,
Vatnajökull. The books and articles re-
sulting from these investigations are
listed, as are the necrological articles
concerning the participants. The au-
thor is the only participant still alive.
