T 2 and T 3. Only the tillites T 3 are to be found on the geological map
of the neighbourhood of Reykjavík (1958) by Tómas Tryggvason and author.
The oldest tillite layers, T 1 and T 2, are intercalated in the tertiary series
of basaltic lava flows. It is considered possible that T 1 and T 2 may be the
same layer but separated by a fault.1)
The basalts (and tillites) now dip about 12° towards S. E. This tectonical
disturbance is belived to have taken place in the late Tertiary. If so, the
tillites (T 1 and T 2) of course must be of Tertiary age. The tillite layers T
3 are rnuch younger and without doubt of Quaternary age. In Fossvogur,
Brimnes and several places in Reykjavik the tillite are fossiliferous. They
are in some places (e. g. on Brimnes Fig. 7) superimposed by interglacial
doleritic lavas which have been glacially scoured and striated in the last
glaciation.
This fact seents to indicate that the tillite T 3 derive frorn the Riss (Illinoian)
glaciation.

Um fræhymu (Cerastium)
Ein algengasta tegund íslenzkra plantna er músareyra (Cera-
stium alpinum). Hins vegar er það ljóst hverjum þeim, sem nokkuð
athugar hana, að liún er býsna breytileg, og kemur þar einkum
til hæring á blöðum og stöngli. Svo má heita, að músareyra sé
jafnalgengt í öllum landshlutum og jafnt „hátt til fjalla og lágt
til stranda".
Náskyld músareyranu, og lík því við fljóta yfirsýn, er kirtil-
fræhyrna (C. Edmondstonii). Er oft býsna erfitt að greina þessar
tvær tegundir sundur, enda sýnilega til milliform þeirra. Kirtil-
fræhyman er einnig allbreytileg. En þar sem músareyrað er al-
gengt hvarvetna á landinu, er kirtilfræhyrnan fremur sjaldgæf teg-
und og má kalla nær eingöngu fundin hátt til fjalla. Samkvæmt
