“Umted We Stand”
Written on the oecasion of the union of the Icelandic
Synod with the United Lutheran Church in America.
Glory to the Father,
Son, and Holy Ghost,
For each step of union
When darkness threatens most.
Against the realms of light
In this bewildered age.
We thank Thee, Lord for all
That welds our heritage.
A lonely valiant stream
Has found its kin at last,
Becoming tributary
Of a stream more vast;
And each unto the other
Has precious strength to give,
Both flowing on together
Shall yet more vitally live.
O may they ever flow
With Thine own Love and Grace
O Lord, o’er sin’s dark wastelands
Nor shun one desert place;
And keep them humbly faithful
Their shining freight to bear —
The lonelj^ Cross of Calvary
To lost ones everywhere.
O let them ne’er forget
Their Source on Calvary’s HiII
In streams of blood and water
Redemptive, priceless still.
So shall each ransom’d voyageur
To ultimate realms above
Sail this eternal river
To the ocean of His Love.
