of benorylate from the gut.
These results are well in aocordance with the
findings of Powell and Ansell, who proved, that
adequate blood salicylate levels were not achieved
in most patients with the recommended dosage of
benorylate of 200 mg per kg of body weiglit, per
day.
However, if the dosage is increased, the side
effects of benorylate may turn up earlier than
the adequate blood salicylate levels are achieved.
An example of that is one girl in our series,
who was given benorylate 300 mg/kg/day in order
to achieve the therapeutic salicylate serum levels
between the values of 25 and 30 mg/100 ml.
These therapeutic levels were never reached,
the test had to be interrupted on the 9th day
from the beginning because of diarrhoea. At the
same time, the increased value of serum aspar-
tate aminotransferase was observed, and the
patient developed a slight compensated metabolic
acidosis. The bleeding time was prolonged, too.
In this same case, the paracetamol serum
levels did not exceed the therapeutic liroits,
which are reported to be between 5 and 15 ug/ml
In our study, paracetamol serum levels were
determined by gas-liquid chromatography.
