sentence (7424~25 sed — quidem) reproduces Peerse’s v. 175, but
in the poem it belongs to the following statement (about cheat-
ing Germans). A stop at the end of v. 175 would however make
AJ’s interpretation defensible, and it may have been present in
older editions; it would indeed give a better text.

1578). The punishment spoken of in 1. 4-6 is not laid down by
the relevant part of Jånsbåk, but comes from the so-called Stori-
domur of 1564 (Dipi. Isl. XIV 275), where however the death-
penalty is only to be invoked after the third offence.
