statement I 19727 that Haraldr gråfeldr feli 15 years after King
Håkon’s death (= Fms. I 89), where Flat. I 85 has 12 years.
1981-23 See Fms. I 89-90, 122-3; Flat. I 85-6, 110-14; Hkr.
I 278, 298-304, 315. 700, the number of Haraldr’s shlps (I
1988), agrees with Fms. I 90; Flat. I 86 and Hkr. I 278 have
600.
19828—i991G See Fms. I 60-61, 90; cf. Flat. I 67-8, 86; Hkr.
I 244-5, 279. Rous Albus (I 1997) corresponds to Hroi enn
hvlti Fms. I 60, Hkr. I 244, while the nickname is lacking Flat.
I 68; similarly there is agreement with Fms. I 60, Hkr. I 244
“til Upplanda” at I i9910-11 “ad Oplandos . . aufugit”; Flat. I
68 has here “upp å Grenland”.
19917-26 See Fms. IV 24-7; OH 26-30; Flat. II 4-5.
i9930-2O27 See Fms. I 66-81; cf. Flat. I 71-81, Hkr. I 255-
66. The source was AM 53 fol., cf. AJ’s statement (I 20122)
that Olaf was bought for 10 marks of gold; AM 53 and 54 fol.,
Fms. I 80, have the same, while AM 61 fol. has 9 and Flat. I
80 has 11; no price is given in Hkr. I 265.
20021 marg. 968: Thus Gottskålksannåll and Flateyjarannåll
after correction (from 969), whereas Fms. I 67 has “å 9da åri
hins 7da tigar ens ioda hundraSs” (AM 61 fol.) ; the reading
in AM 53 and 54 fol. however is “sétta tigar” (= 959), which
makes it understandable that AJ should have preferred the date
given by the annals.
20124-31 This passage is not in Hkr., but is found in Fms. I
76-77 and Flat. I 77-8.
20211—2046 See Fms. I 98-105, 124-30, 135-44; cf. Flat. I
88-94, 110-14, 115-22 ; Hkr. has a variant account. The source
was presumably the Fms.-text.
20214 sex solum navibus: This is not found in Fms. I, Flat.
or Hkr.
20217-18 Annum ætatis XVIII ingressus: The age has been
worked out by AJ, Olaf having come to the king when he was
9 and stayed there 9 years, according to Fms. I 80 and 81.
20316-27 Refers to Adam of Bremen, whose work A. S. Vedel
published for the first time in 1579 from a manuscript from Sorø
monastery. Adam’s remarks on Olaf Tryggvason are found in
Gesta, lib. II cap. 40 (Schmeidler’s edn. pp. 100-101).
