NOTES
1163: “logrettu bardagi |xar feck halldor snorra son bana”. The
Halldårr Snorrason mentioned here, who was a priest, was in
faet descended from Snorri goSi, cf. Sturlunga saga (Kålund)
Ii25, but AJ has contented himself with the faet that the names
were the same, without being in the least deterred by what are,
to say the least, difficult chronological consequences.
I487-11 Taken from I 2 7 815-20, but used here to explain Hall-
dårr Snorrason’s great age.
14812 Lucanus: See Lucan. Phars. II 380-82 and 389-91. The
quotation is not in Supplementum.
I4835-I495 See I 2943-20; shortened in Crymogæa.
I496-26 Repeated with some minor alterations from I 2 9 5 20-34,
see note ad loc.
14927—15018 Repeated from I 29535—29622, see notes ad loc.
I5O20-i533 Gisis {xåttr Illugasonar. Repeated from I 2993-
3017, see notes ad loc.; there is however a small addition in Cry-
mogæa, for which the source is the same as that used in Supple-
mentum, i.e. Hulda (Fms. VII 29—40).
x5 1 24—30 Not inSupplem. The reading “beinum” (1. 29) agrees
with Hulda, while Hrokkinskinna has “beine”.
H35-21 From Landn. (1900, pp. 161-3). The readings “Alf-
ur” and “Alfreckar” (11. 6-7) agree in part with Sturlubåk:
“Halbr er red Alfs reckum” (1. c. p. 161), while Hauksbok has
“Halfr” and “Halfs reckum”. The remark on the crew of 60
men (11. 6-7) is not in Landn., but must come from Halfs saga,
ch. 10 (see Altn. Sagabibliothek XIV 98). Cf. Introduction
above, ch. III no. 43.
I541-30 See Landn. 1900, pp. 210-11, and the genealogies I
164, 322, 387 and notes.
1559 See Landn. 1900, p. 185. The names of the brothers
(1. 7) have become confused: VefreySr is omitted, Forbarn
strugr has been turned into two men (this may possibly be due
to the printer), and Ævarr is added. This last addition must be
the result of a too hasty reading of the Landn.-text, where Ævarr
is named immediately after the sons (Landn. 1900, p. 18514);
AJ thus took the name as belonging to yet another of the
brothers.
