was used in Iceland by E. Henderson, the famous English tra-
veller, who was in Iceland 1814-15 (see f»Th. Lfrs. III 214
—23)-
8. AM J73 b 4-to. Written by Åsgeir Jonsson, who on the fly-
leaf has put: “Asgerus Jonæ Islandus mppria Hafniæ 1680
[crossed out'] d. 12 Januarij”. The year must be wrong, for
Asgeir Jonsson did not come to Copenhagen until the autumn of
1686 (see Kjøbenhavns Universitets Matrikel II, 1894, p. 150).
The manuscript belonged to Torfæus who in one or two places in
the margin has added references to his own book on Greenland
(published 1706); his quotations from AJ’s Gronlandia were
taken from this manuscript (see below). On a slip pasted into the
manuscript a scribe has written: “Fra sal. Assessor Thormod
Toruesens Enke 1720”. The manuscript is evidently a copy of
no. 7.
9-10. Kali 275 fol. Two copies (a and b), written in the first
half of the eighteenth century. The first (a) is a copy of the
second (b), evidence of which may be found in a series of com-
mon errors plus various new ones which a has over and above
those in b, e.g. II 238® Ragnafiord b, Rogna- a; 239“ Adalthegnz
b, Adelthegnn a; 2403 Menja b, Manga a; 2406 Sefa b, Sofa a,
etc. According to the manuscript’s own statement (found both on
the title-page that serves both copies and also at the beginning
of a; not however in b), it (d: b) was copied from the author’s
autograph “in bibliotheca Regia”. This can only be a reference
to A, and that it is so is confirmed by the faet that Resen’s mar-
ginal notes in A are included in both b and a1. Both copies were
made by scribes who were not Icelanders.
11. Trimty College, Dublin, MS L. 4. 12 (see O. Skulerud,
Catalogue of Norse Manuscripts, 1918, p. 50 no. 153). Written
in the eighteenth century. It ends with the words “sinus maris
bene multos notabant . . . (II 26219). It must be descended from
