POWER PLANT

City Hydro has two hydro-electric power
plants at Pointe du Bois and Slave Falls, on
the Winnipeg River. City Hydro also has a
steam turbine plant in Winnipeg by the Red
Rivet, at the foot of James Avenue.
The total generating capacity of these three
plants is 273,700 horsepower, available for the
ever-increasing needs of Winnipeg's homes and
industries.
City Hydro, recognized far and wide as an
outstanding example of successfu! municipal
ownership, made a record profit in 1956 of over
$1,622,000.00.
POINTE DU BOIS powcr plant built in 1911,
wbich has o copacity of 105,000 horsepower.
SLAVE FALLS power plont (96.000 h.p.)
which is six miles south of Pointe du Bois on the
Winnipeg River.
From this surplus, $450,000.00 was contri-
buted to the City's General Budget to help relieve
the taxpayers' burden. Since 1938, over $10,-
000,000 has been contributed to the City's funds
for this purpose.
