"Christ, the Hope of the World"
The Second Assembly of the World Council of Churches
at Evanston, IU., U.S.A.

This great gathering of Christians from all parts of the world—
the greatest. ever held on this continent, has captured the attention
of people everywhere, as few other events in our day. It is an event
of historical significance.
This assembly is now being held,
the date being August 15-31. It is
the second assembly of the World
Council of Churches, the first
being held in Amsterdam, Holland,
in 1948. The theme of Assembly is
"Christ, ihe Hope of ihe World."
The primary purpose is to bear a
unified testimony before a
troubled, disillusioned, disunited
and dying generation of men, to
the hope there is, in the Gospel of
Christ. In the light of that hope,
the Assembly will speak to the
world, and set forth the duty of
Christians for co-ordinated service
to heal the ills of mankind, to
lessen the tension among nations, to seek to establish a working
brotherhood of love and service to mankind. For such is the ever
present challenge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
For over two years a large staff has been at work to plan and
prepare for this meeting of the Assembly. World leaders of
Protestantism from many lands as well as theological teachers and
writers, and social workers of world renown will speak there.
Among these leaders are such men as the Archbishop of Canter-
bury, Bishop Oxnam of the Methodist Church in America. Among
