Aurora Frederickson Johnson
Born September 4, 1877 — Died June 22, 1954
Aurora Johnson was born at
Gimli, Man., September 4th, 1877,
the daughter of Fridjon and Gudny
Frederickson, prominent citizens
in that pioneer Icelandic commu-
nity (and with Prof. S. K. Hall was
baptized at the first Christmas
service conducted at Gimli by the
late Dr. Jon Bjarnason).
After living a short while in Sel-
kirk the family moved (in 1886) to
Glenboro, Man., then just coming
into being as a town. Here Aurora
received her primary education
and later attended St. John’s
Ladies College in Winnipeg.
In 1898 Aurora married Thomas
Hermann Johnson who was then
setting out on his very distinguish-
ed legal career, leading him to the Attorney Generalship of the
Province of Manitoba. Their married life was singularly happy
and was blessed with three children: Ethel Margaret Jolly of
Madison, Conn.; Elswood Brandur, New York City; and Cecil
Frederick of Toquonock, Conn.
The Johnsons lived all the days of their married life in Winni-
peg. They were staunch members of First Lutheran Church and
took a very special interest in the church choir, of which they were
members until his failure in health. Mrs. Johnson was a member
of the Ladies Aid of her church, and during World War I took an
active interest in welfare work on behalf of the soldiers.
Besides her children, Mrs. Johnson is survived by several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, also two brothers, Harold
Frederickson of Winnipeg and Kari of Vancouver.
The funeral was conducted from her old church home by Dr.
V. J. Eylands.
