Anna Kristjana Finnson
1885 — 1963
Anna Kristjana Finnson died De-
cember 22, 1963, and was borne
to her last resting place from First
Lutheran Church on Christmas
Eve.
She was born in Iceland Sep-
tember 22, 1895, the daughter of
Halldor and Gudfinna Thorgeirson.
The family came to Canada when
Anna was five years old and set-
tled for a time in Winnipeg. Here
Anna grew up, attended school and
held her first position with the
T. Eaton Co. Later she followed
her parents and two younger sis-
ters to Churchbridge, Sask. With
a natural aptitude for work and
management, the city girl quickly
adapted to farm life like a veteran.
On December 18, 1918, she married Kambinus Finnson, son of
Churchbridge pioneers Gudjon and Steinunn Finnson. The couple
took active part in church and community work. During their years
in the Churchbridge district, Anna was a valued member of the
ladies aid of Concordia Lutheran Church.
When the couple, with their two small children, moved to
Winnipeg in 1929, they joined First Lutheran Church. Anna was
a devoted member of the Women’s Organization for a number of
years. It was during her term as president that the Dorcas Society
was formed and she worked diligently to bring it into being. A
member of the Jón Sigurdsson Chapter, I.O.D.E., she served as
membership convener for a number of years. She took active
interest in the Icelandic Canadian Club and, with her late husband
served on the executive for a time.
