told them to remind the disciples of his appointment. “Go, tell
His disciples and Peter that He is going before you to Galilee,
there you will see Him, as He told you.” (Mark. 16:7). The appoint-
ment was kept, and “when they saw Him they worshiped Him.”
(Matt. 28:17). Christ’s purpose in making the appointment was
doubtless that He might comfort their hearts and convince their
minds that He had risen from the dead — that He had indeed the
power to lay down His life and the power to take it up again.
What a blessing' it brought to the disciples when they kept
their appointment! Jesus still makes appointments and He is always
true to them.
1. He makes an appointment with us on Mount Calvary. He
has an oppointment with all men at the Cross. Men must wend
their way out that “Green Hill Far Away” if they would find
Christ and be saved. No soul has ever sought Him there in vain.
2. Jesus makes an appointment to meet us in the temple. He
says: “For where two or three are gathered in My name, there am
I in the midst of them.” (Matt. 18:20). We have an appointment
with Christ at the Sunday Worship Services. It is not a question
of how many will be there, nor whether the weather will be stormy
or fair, it is a matter of keeping an appointment with Christ, our
Saviour.
3. Christ makes a very special appointment to meet us at the
Communion Table. He has told us to come, to come again, and
again. He keeps this appointment, revealing Himself to us — for-
giving us our sins; giving us new hope, courage and great comfort.
4. Christ has an appointment with us in prayer. “Come away
by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while.” (Mark 6:31). We
receive rest in companionship with Him, in the “quiet hour” in
secret converse with Christ.
5. Christ has an appointment with us in the study of His Word.
“You search the scriptures”, He says, “because you think that in
them you have eternal life; and it is they bear witness to Me.”
(John 5:39).
6. Christ has an appointment with us in each place of Christian
service. “Lo, I am with you always.” Go with the assurance and
