this camp. Many have given freely of their time and strength for
the cause. Many heartfelt prayers have been uttered for the future
of this place. May it always serve the purpose for which it was
built: To lead our youth nearer to their Lord and Saviour”. Highly
thought of by those who worked with her and for her in the
L. W. L. and at Sunrise Camp, she, in turn, thought highly of the
faithful workers who assisted her in one way or another, and she
never hesitates to say so.
In 1947 the camp committee became known as the Board of
Directors of Sunrise Lutheran Camp and the number of members
was increased to sixteen, ten women and six men, plus the presi-
dent of the L. W. L. who also has a seat on the Board. There have
been some changes since then, but three of the members elected
that year are still members of the Board; they are: Mrs. S. O.
Bjerring as Honorary Life Member, a title he deserves after great
activity as member of the building committee and then as member
of the Camp Board, Dr. Eyjolfur Johnson who has been most help-
ful as doctor on call to the camp when required, and Mrs. Anna
Magnusson who has been treasurer of the camp fund during the
whole of its existence for twenty years. Mrs. Thjodbjorg Henrick-
son served on the camp committee from the beginning and then
on the Camp Board, being secretary for a number of years until
she passed away in April, 1964. In 1958 Gissur Eliasson was elected
chairman of the Board to replace Mr. Bjerring who retired from
active service. Mi’. Eliasson has followed in his predecessor’s foot-
steps and shown great interest and enthusiasm regarding the work
at the camp, he has labored along with Mrs. Eliasson to make the
camp and the camping a success and an inspiration to all con-
cerned.
The members of the Lutheran Women’s League feel greatly
indebted to all who have given assistance in any form, to those
who have helped financially by donating larger or smaller sums of

men who have come forward to serve, to those who have served
on the Board of Directors for longer or shorter periods. They are
grateful to those who have served as Director of the Camp, all
of whom have given of their very best in leadership and managa-
ment and made each season a success. They are grateful to all the
