'WHEN A GIPSY When a gypsy makes his violin cry, My lips are still, but it’s haunting thrill fans a smoldring fire. When a gypsy makes a magic string sigh, Again to me comes the memory of an old desire. He draws his bow and seems to know that love once hurt my heart, And as he plays for me I am lost in reverie. How I treasure every measure till the last notes die, When a gypsy makes his violin cry. A LITTLE ON THE LONELY SIDE Darling, since you’ve been away I get sort of blue; Darling, I imagine you feel the same way too. I’m a little on the lonely, a little on the lonely side; You know my dear, when you’re not here, there is no one to romance with; So if I’m seen with someone else it’s just one to dance with. Ev’ry letter that you send me I read a dozen times or more, Any wonder that I love you more and more. Oh! how I miss your tender kiss and long to hold you tight, I’m a little on the lonely side to- night. FREDDY AND HIS FIDDLE What’s happened in the street? • What’s happened to the feet? The street is full of feet and all the feet are full of beat. I can’t dance, you can’t dance, But let’s admit we’re definitely dancing. That it’s a phenomenon, nobody doubts; Yet it’s very common nights here abouts. Freddy and his fiddle are at in the square again And Freddy and his fiddle make anybody dance! Make ev’rybody dance! Make all the people dance! Freddy never studied, he said he never studied And he couldn’t tell a scale from a whole note tied. Freddy wouldn’t know so, but he’s a virtuoso, When he pulls a horse’s tail ’cross a cat’s inside! He’ll make a baker dance, an under- taker hop, He’ll make a preacher prance and never let him stop! He can’t stop, we can’t stop, For something in the melody com- pels us. We aru just a couple of slaves to his whim, Lucky to be supple of muscle and limb. Freddy and his fiddle will keep it up until we Get unsteady in the middle from wear and tear! Freddy and his fiddle are at it in the square. J Enskir sönglagatextar ^52 HEIMILISRITIÐ
