The mean age of the patients with spondylitic
heart disease was somewhat higher - 48 years -
than in the control group without cardiovascuiar
manifestations - 43 years. (Fig. 4)
Cardiovascular lesions were preferably observed
in advanced stages of the spondylitis process.
The coincidence of spondylitic heart disease
and peripheral arthritis must be pointed out. In
22% spondylitic patients with cardiac manifesta-
tions suffered from peripheral arthritis compared
with 97o of peripheral arthritis in spondylitic
patients without cardiac lesions. There was no
association of cardiac involvement to other
visceral manifestations like iritis, conjunctivitis,
urethritis or colitis.
