The mean age of the patients with spondylitic heart disease was somewhat higher - 48 years - than in the control group without cardiovascuiar manifestations - 43 years. (Fig. 4) Cardiovascular lesions were preferably observed in advanced stages of the spondylitis process. The coincidence of spondylitic heart disease and peripheral arthritis must be pointed out. In 22% spondylitic patients with cardiac manifesta- tions suffered from peripheral arthritis compared with 97o of peripheral arthritis in spondylitic patients without cardiac lesions.
