photogrammetric measurements ofthe 1980photo- graphy are yet to be made, it is clear that the eastern extension of the spits has ceased and it appears that there have been no significant changes in the posit- ion of the coastline during the last 15 years. CONCLUSIONS The record of the changes in the position of the frontal margin of Breidamerkurjökull andofchang- es in its proglacial deposits, landforms, drainage system, lakes and coastline is extremely good for the last 90 years. It is hoped that luture changes will be recorded and that further investigations of the pro- glacial sediments and of the glacier itself will be undertaken. Specifically, it is to be hoped that the already excellent aerial photographic coverage of this area will be continued on a regular basis. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The author is most grateful to his colleague Professor G. Petrie for his co-operation as co-director of the Universily of Glasgow Breidarmerkurjökull Project between 1964 and 1967 and to Dr. P.J. Howarth and Dr. R. Welch for their participation in the project. Not only thosepersons assoáaled with the University of Glasgow, but all the British workers who have had the opportunity to msit Breidamerkurjökull, extend their thanks to Dr. Sigurdur Thorarinsson, to Land- maelingar Islands, Vegamálastjórinn and to the residents of Kvísker and Fagurhólsmýri for their generous co-operation over the last eighteenyears. The Camegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland generously provided a grant for the printing of Figure 1. Thisfigure wasproduced with the assistance of Miss Franc- is Orr and Mr.J. Shearer.
