Auglýsingar nm allar bregtingar á vitum og sjómerkjum koma í LögbirtingablaS-
inu, og veröur sérprentun úr því send þeim, er þess óska; ef eitthvaö markvert ber að,
er það jafnframt tilkynnt frá loftskeytastöð Reykjavíkur kvölds og morguns, strax á
eftir veðurskeytunum, og eru slíkar tilkynningar gefnar með fyrirsögn: „vitatilkynu-
ing“, fyrst á íslenzku, svo á ensku.
Um hljóðmerki (þokulúðra).
Um þokulúðra ber þess að gæta, sem hér segir:
aff aldrei er hægt að vita, hve langt hljóðið J>erst; það er algerlega undir ásigkomu-
lagi loftsins komið. Stundum getur hljóðið heyrst 10 sjóm., en stundum ekki einu
sinni 2 sjóm. Einnig getur komið fyrir, að það heyrist betur i mikilli en litilli
fjarlægð.
aff þoka getur verið á sjó, einkum á nóttum, án þess að þess verði vart á hljóðmerkja-
stöðinni.
aff mjög örðugt er að gera sér grein fyrir, í hvaða stefnu eða fjarlægð merkjastöðin sé.
aff bergmálið frá merkjastöðinni er oft öðruvísi en hljóðið sjálft, vanalega lengra og
veikara og heyrist stundum úr öfugri átt.
aff samkvæmt framanskráðu ber að skoða hljóðmerkin aðallega sem varúðarmerki
og til áminningar fyrir sjófarendur um að sigla hægt og gætilega og nota sökkuna.
Name of Lights. Thick capital letters signify, that it is a light of much impor-
tance; thick ordinary letters that it is a light of ordinary importance; italics that it
is a harbour- or fishing-light. An asterisk in front of the name signifies that it is a
light belonging to the Government Lighthouse Department.
The Position is the N. latitude and the longitude W. of Greenwich.
Thc characteristic: Fixed (stöðugt), Flashing or Revolving (blossi, leiftur, titr-
aiuli), Occulting (myrkva). The Colours of the lights may be white (hvítur), red
(rauður) or green (grænn).
The Optical Range is the Distance in Nautical Miles, that the light should be
seen in ordinary clear weather if the height is sufficient.
The Geographical Range is the Distance in Nautical Miles, that the light can be
seen in clear weather, frorn the deck 5 m above the sea level.
The Height of the Focal Plan is indicated in meters above heigh water, with
the exactitude of approximately 10% of the height. The height is only indicated pur-
pose to convey to navigators an idea of the position of the light, but is not be con-
sidered as an exact measure which to base determinations of distance.
The Description indicates the Form, Colours and Height of the Lighthouse in
meters.
The Year is the year of Establishing and that of the last Alteration of the light.
The General Remarks contain Site of Lighthouse, Limits of the Colours, True
Bearings (given from Seaward), Bricf Sailing Directions, the Showing Time of the
lights, etc.
