Aðalbjörg Brandson
Born September 2, 1878 — Died February 18, 1954
Remembrance is a precious thing
and we, who remember, through
the years, our dear friend and co-
worker, Mrs. B. J. Brandson, are
moved to look back on memories
and bring to mind the many pic-
tures of treasured friendship.
Adalbjorg Brandson was born
September 2, 1878, in Iceland. Her
parents, Benedikt and Nanna Ben-
son came to Canada in 1882 and
settled in Winnipeg. Here she at-
tended school, took music lessons
and blossomed i n t o gracious
womanhood. From her father she
inherited a love of music, and
from her mother and maternal
grandfather, an artistic bent and
love of beautiful things. October
5th, 1905, she married Dr. B. J. Brandson. They worked together,
in their home, where hospitality reigned, in the church, always the
centre of both worship and activities, and in the community, where
every worthy cause received their loyal support. But, close to their
hearts was Betel, Home for the Aged, and to it they gave faithful
and wholehearted, loving service. After Dr. Brandson’s death, Mrs.
Brandson assumed the duties of Chairman of the Board and carried
on until failing health forced her resignation. She was honored by
the Board with a plaque acknowledging her work for Betel (Ardis,
1953, page 5). Her long years of service to the Ladies Aid of First
Lutheran Church cannot be evaluated, but it was a selfless service,
rendered freely and lovingly, and the members of the Ladies Aid
will miss her gracious presence. She died February 18th, 1954.
Dr. and Mrs. Brandson had four children. The eldest son, Jon
Theodore, died young; Thomas Leonard, who joined the Canadian
